Charles Lovell OBE

It is with regret that we announce the death of Charles Lovell OBE.

Better known as Charlie, he died on Monday 13th October following a fall at home some weeks earlier when he fractured his skull. Charlie had been making great progress in hospital, so much so that he was allowed two weeks’ respite care but died peacefully of complications with all of his family present.

Charlie was probably the last of the group of committed trade union leaders who did so much towards the creation of the NAECI. He was also the chief architect of the NASEC scheme.

The funeral will take place on 4th November. There will be a Requiem Mass at St Thomas Moore Church in West Malling at 10.15am. This will be followed by a service at the Vintners Park Crematorium at 11.45am. There will be tea and sandwiches at the Old Rectory in Leybourne from 12.30pm. The family will be pleased for anyone who wishes to attend any one or all of these events.

Letters of condolence can be sent to one of Charlie’s daughters, Mrs Kate Tunstall, 79 Oak Drive, Aylesford, Kent ME20 6NL.
